Rabanne made headlines at Paris Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2025 season with the unveiling of what they call the “most expensive bag” in the world. This announcement follows the brand’s significant moment earlier this month when global sensation Chappell Roan donned a medieval-themed chainmail dress at the MTV VMA Awards.

The new bag, crafted by fashion designer Paco Rabanne for French icon Françoise Hardy in 1968, is a tribute to the “most expensive dress” ever created. Made from 18-karat gold, the one-of-a-kind 1969 Nano bag echoes the opulence of the original dress, which was adorned with gold and diamonds. Rabanne established his legacy in 1966 with his debut collection, “12 Unwearable Dresses in Contemporary Materials,” where he famously experimented with unconventional materials like metals and plastics.

Current creative director Julien Dossena has revisited Rabanne’s design roots, showcasing this handcrafted masterpiece on the runway. The 1969 Golden Bag, which took 100 hours to create in collaboration with French artisan jeweler Arthus Bertrand, is priced at €250,000 EUR.

In addition to the golden marvel, two other striking bags were presented: the Handcrafted 1969 Glass Bag, featuring Murano glass pastilles from the renowned Venini glassmaking house, and a Ceramic Bag made entirely of ceramic discs by Astier de Villatte. Each piece reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit of the Rabanne brand.
